Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of respiratory illness in young children. RSV infection produces a variety of signs and symptoms involving different areas of the respiratory tract, from the nose to the lungs. Laboratory mice are infectable with human RSV but only semi-permissive for viral replication. Different strains and sub-strains of virus have different properties in the mouse model. We therefore cloned and tested a range of variants of A2 strain, finding one that is especially good at infecting and causing disease in mice.

Virus storage: must be stored at minus 80 degrees centigrade or below. Needs to be thawed and rapidly used (unstable at room temperature for about one hour). Licensees are permitted to grow up stocks of their own according to supplied protocols.
