Growing resistance to antimicrobials is one of the major concerns within healthcare systems today. One of the best ways to ensure that the prescription of antimicrobials is made only when appropriate is through education. Many university undergraduate courses in clinical disciplines (e.g. medicine, veterinary science, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy) now include some teaching of antimicrobial stewardship, but there is some suggestion in the literature that gaps in teaching still exist and that undergraduates are interested in receiving more information on antimicrobial stewardship as part of their degrees.

Dr Enrique Castro-Sánchez and colleagues from Imperial College London developed a questionnaire to assess the depth of teaching on antimicrobial stewardship on clinical undergraduate programmes, which was used as part of a study published in PLOS One.

Course planners and other academics can use this questionnaire to assess their own programmes to help inform and improve their offering on antimicrobial stewardship teaching.
