FRECOL is an educational tool for long-term dynamic simulations of power system frequency control under realistic disturbance scenarios. It is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and is aimed at power and control engineering students to practice frequency control and to test tuning and control strategies.

The sensitivity of electrical equipment to frequency deviations is high and the consequences severe - even deviations smaller than 1% can lead to damage, degradation of performance and trips of loads and generators.

FRECOL was developed by Prof. Nina Thornhill and colleagues in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London.
